Interview Highlights
What is the inspiration behind your company?
"Erebuni Clothing" is inspired by ancient patterns of Armenian rugs and carpets. We didn't simply get inspired by ancient letters, patterns and designs, but we elevated them all to a new level and built a new kind of platform.
3 years ago I decided to learn about ancient patterns, and bought a book about ancient Armenian rugs and carpets. As I was learning about all the history and meaning, I understood that I want to carry this on me someway.
What materials do you work with?
We had many team conversations about the materials to be used: actual carpet or rug material, but it will last like three months to make a tie; recycled material, that's considered cheap, but eco-friendly, and brand new material, good, but harmful for the eco system... So we did something in between: our boxes are all from recycled materials, the ties have different components, like cotton, recycled polyester and cotton mix. Being eco-friendly is important to us.
What were the challenges to overcome?
The biggest challenge was manufacturing the ties in Armenia. I knew that it would be much easier, faster and cheaper to print the ties in China, but as I wasn't only business oriented, it was vital for me to provide jobs in Armenia, I found a suitable factory. I was losing money for 2 to 3 years until we got to the point. Now I feel very fulfilled with what I've done.
Is there an advice you want to share?
My biggest advice I have received was from my father. He said: if you believe in something, just go for it!
