Meet Today's Artist "Art on Silk" Gohar SargsyanWhat does your unique craft bring to the world? What story is it trying to tell?
“Each scarf is like a canvas”
“Each piece of scarf or clothing that I make, is one of a kind. They are unique, just like art pieces. Every collection that I create has a story behind it. I treat them the same way I treat my paintings. Each collection is a story of its own.
I truly believe, that each time an individual chooses a scarf, it is like choosing a piece of art. Since every piece is one of a kind, it reflects the individuality of each person choosing it. Scarves can be worn in very different ways. The story, the lines, the patterns on the scarves give life to imagination.

What made you decide to use silk in your accessories?
"When I was 12 years old, my Father brought me a silk scarf from Germany. Actually he brought it for my Mom, but I ended up keeping it because I loved it so much. My poor Mom had no other choice than to give it to me. It was my first encounter with silk. That scarf was hand-drawn since my Father purchased it from the art institute in Germany. He told me the technique they used to make the scarf. I was fascinated by what I heard. I would use it all the time. I would use it as a scarf, a head wrap, any other way I could find to use it. It was with me everywhere I went. So for the next ten years, I used it so much, I wore it out. I was captivated by its beauty."

What is the greatest challenge you had to overcome? "There are many challenges for an artist. When you are a designer, you design once and can replicate the same item. But for an artist, each piece is new. Challenges are part of a creative person’s daily routine. They are more a motivating factor than anything else. As long as you are in good health, the challenges are natural." |
What is the best advice you have ever received?
"Listen to advice, but at the end of the day to listen to your inner voice"
"Life has taught me to listen to my inner voice. Everyone calls it differently. But it is the intuition, the gut. The best advice is the feeling you have when you know it’s yours. When people give advice, they do not know all the details. But, if you are honest with yourself, you see all the details and you choose the advice that fits best to your situation. |
